'I won a boudoir shoot and now I'm a lingerie model it makes me feel so sexy'

A woman who won a boudoir photoshoot by chance has turned modelling lingerie into a full-time career.

Gemma Lago, 30, from Sussex, started modelling in 2015 after winning a free photoshoot with a local photographer.

She instantly "found a love" for it, and because it made her feel so good about herself, she decided to work in the industry.

Gemma loves the buzz wearing lingerie gives her as it makes her feel "sexy and confident".

She said people often think of sexy undies in a certain way – but she just finds embracing her bod empowering.

She told Daily Star: "I wear it for me. We’ve been conditioned to think lingerie is just about women seducing men, but actually lingerie is for everyone, and we can just wear it for ourselves.

"It doesn’t always have to be for someone else’s benefit."

Her career has taken off so much in recent years that she also works with major brands like Ann Summers.

She posts content to inspire other women on her Instagram page where she now boasts more than 10,000 followers.

What started as a bit of luck in a competition led to making her biggest dreams come true.

"I love working with Ann Summers," Gemma added.

"When I grew up in my late teens they were the most popular brand my friends and I knew about, and I’ve always loved the way they are so sex positive as well.

"I think that’s really important and something else I like to raise awareness for with my social platforms - women being sexual shouldn’t be seen as taboo or shameful.

"I love that they empower everyone to embrace their sexuality.

"I love how inclusive they are as a brand too - every person should feel as though they are seen and valued.

"Every body is worthy and beautiful."

Gemma has done different photoshoots over the years, but she mainly models lingerie sets from home for Instagram, as she loves to show off pieces by her favourite brands.

Back at Christmas time, she was even involved in the Ann Summers Christmas Campaign, which saw her travel to London for the shoot.

She said it was a "dream come true", as it was something she had always hoped for.

Gemma said: "For years I’d walk past Ann Summers' shops with my mum and sister, point at the models in the windows and just say 'one day that’ll be me!'

"And then when I finally saw myself in that shop window I cried.

"It was the best day ever. It felt so incredible."

As well as using her platform to feel good, celebrate her femininity and work with major brands – Gemma also uses it to open up about some very important topics.

In her open and honest posts you'll see her raising awareness of mental health, bullying and she also talks frankly about not wanting children.

She often chats abut how it's fine to be a childfree woman in 2023, and she wants to help break the stigma for women who chose not have kids.

"I use my platforms to empower other women to feel confident and sexy, and to just learn to love themselves for who they are," Gemma said.

"If you’re a kind person and you spread love with others that radiates from you, and makes you beautiful, regardless of what you look like."

She added: "I also use my platforms to raise awareness about rabbit welfare, as a rabbit welfare advocate and having four house bunnies myself.

"I think because I’ve built these big platforms I want to also utilise those to do something that’s really important to me.

"Rabbits are complex, exotic animals that need so much more care than people are led to believe.

"My life goal is to build and open my own rabbit rescue centre, so that I can save them, but also educate as many people as possible on their welfare so less rabbits are abandoned, and more of them get to live happier and healthier lives."
