The Hedge Clippers stage protest at Daniel Loeb's Hamptons home

Hundreds of angry protestors descended on East Hampton at the weekend to take a stand against a fundraiser hosted by hedge fund billionaire Daniel Loeb.

The liberal activists called themselves 'The Hedge Clippers' and carried signs and placards that read 'Hedge Funds = Inequality'.

The group of 250 arrived at the town by bus and set up their demonstration outside Loeb's oceanfront estate, where Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo was making an appearance inside.

'Cuomo, Cuomo, you can't hide, we can see your greedy side,' the protesters chanted, according to Newsday.

Daniel Loeb (left), the founder of the hedge fund Third Point LLC, is chairman of the board of Success Academy Charter Schools, based in Manhattan. Most of the protesters were teachers wanting more funding

The protest has worried locals, as the Hamptons enters the season of fundraisers for presidential candidates.

'This is not a good development,' one resident told The New York Post's Page Six.

'It’s literally barbarians at the gate.'

However that is the reason that The Hedgeclippers formed in February.

The aim of the coalition is to bring attention to the political involvements of hedge fund executives.

Five buses picked up protesters from New York City and Long Island.

Many were teachers who were against Loeb and Cuomo's support of charter schools.

Organizer Michael Kink told The Post: 'There’s a lot of people here who’ve absolutely never been to the Hamptons. Some people who’ve never been to the ocean here on Long Island.'

Brooklyn teacher Alexandra Hernandez told Newsday that she teaches in a 'very poor neighborhood' and that the students at the public school 'don't have the supplies they need'.

'The governor needs to focus his attention on what's important: our public school children,' Mrs Hernandez told the newspaper.

There were no arrests at the demonstration.

However Mr Kink was fined for not having a permit for staging a protest with 50 or more people.

A spokesman for Cuomo said the protest was nothing more than a 'performance'.

'The governor's progressive accomplishments are nationally recognized and stand on their own,' the spokesman told Newsday.

'This is just some more performance art from the same paid political advocates under a different name.'
