Jimmy Garoppolo isn't new to the dating scene, but now that the 26-year-old San Francisco 49ers quarterback is a starter, he's learning that a private dinner – like the one he recently enjoyed with porn star Kiara Mira – can become fodder for gossip pages.

'Life is different now,' Garoppolo told reporters at the opening of 49ers training camp – his first since signing a five-year, $137.5 million contract to serve as the team's starting quarterback. 'My life off the field, I've never really been big on being very public with things. Even social media, I'm not out there a ton.

'But, my life is looked at differently and I'm under a microscope,' he continued. 'It's like [coach Kyle Shanahan] said, it's a good learning experience. Just have to take it in stride. It is what it is.'

Tom Brady's former backup in New England did buy a new home with his massive new contract, but he wisely kept its location to himself: 'I can't tell you where I'm living.'

Garoppolo was seen last week taking Mia to Avra, a high-end Greek seafood restaurant. The two were seen walking arm-in-arm and even shared a toast at the table.

There was significant outcry on social media over Garoppolo's decision to date someone in the adult film industry. 

One of his critics was former ESPN on-air personality Britt McHenry.

'Jimmy Garoppolo is the franchise quarterback of a prominent NFL team,' she wrote on Twitter. 'He should have more values and class than parading a porn star in LA. Slam me for saying that, but guarantee someone in his camp said the same thing.'

McHenry later apologized ('I am so sorry for my actions'), but was eventually laid off from ESPN in January of 2018, along with 100 other employees. She currently works at a Fox affiliate in Washington D.C. 

Drafted out of Eastern Illinois by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Garoppolo was dealt to San Francisco in October.

According to multiple reports, the move was made against the wishes of Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who wanted Garoppolo to take over under center when Tom Brady retired.

However, with Brady signaling that he would continue to play, the Patriots opted to send Garoppolo to San Francisco rather than signing the would-be free agent to a lucrative contract extension to continue serving as a backup.

Garoppolo, who went 2-0 in place of a suspended Brady in 2016, went 5-0 for the previously hapless 49ers after the trade. He was rewarded with a five-year, $137.5 million deal to remain the 49ers starting quarterback.
